The students were shown the “wateringues” system protecting region from floods, some places being below the sea level at low tide. The students started at the village of les Moëres and followed the journey of the draining system, guided by a teacher from the French team who explained historical facts and showed them posters and photos about the system. The group stopped at the four Ecluses and finally at the Tixier lock where the outlet canal ends and the water is evacuated at low tide. They could make questions and see the water level sign registered on historical buildings in some of the villages they stopped. Students asked questions about how the manage the waterringues during WW2 and about the climate change impact on the system.
