FRBV25-Science workshop 2 about water

First, the students watched a short video which made them realize how rare and precious fresh water is. They found out fresh water is not available everywhere in the planet.

After that first step, they were guided through the different ways of obtaining fresh water: desalinating seawater, recycling wastewater (the principle of the wastewater treatment plant).

The students were divided into several small groups and they led experiments about how to clean dirty water. They had tools to measure ph and a booklet where to register the information they got from the videos and from the practical activity. They spoke English to each other and translated in different languages the specific vocabulary they met.

In the final part the students were invited to discuss their discoveries and think about many different ways we could impact less on fresh water during our daily routine and life. They also learnt the difference between grey and black water.

As a result, the students:

    • improved their scientific knowledge
    • respected experimental protocols
    • learnt something new about the different ways we can preserve fresh water
    • learnt new specific vocabulary
    • improved their social skills, collaboration and teamwork.
    • found out how science is taught in a different country
