FRBV26 INC PSLL Inequality in sport
04 mai 2026Disabled athletes and sportswomen: same fight?
The Third Form students led the workshop's introductory session, engaging their peers with a survey on sports habits, attitudes, and personal preferences. To transition into the core theme, they invited participants to list famous athletes on the board. This exercise served as a revelation of a stark gender disparity and a total absence of para-athletes in the students' collective awareness.
To deepen this understanding, students viewed a testimonial video featuring sportswomen discussing the systemic inequalities they face. This was supplemented by a detailed Powerpoint presentation highlighting broader inequities, specifically focusing on the intersection of gender and disability.
To transform these abstract concepts into a tangible experience, the group moved to the yard for a "Privilege Walk." Working in pairs, students were assigned diverse character profiles and stood in a starting line. As statements regarding sports access were read, they moved forward or remained stationary, providing a striking visual representation of how socio-economic status and physical ability dictate one's "starting line" in life.
The session concluded with a high-energy, gamified assessment: an original Kahoot! Quiz designed by the Third Form students. This not only tested the assimilation of the statistics and concepts discussed but also showcased the organizers' ICT literacy. Finally, the workshop closed with a brief debate whose goal: move beyond identifying the problem and start discussing individual actions for change.
This workshop successfully bridged the gap between theory and reality. Students moved from a striking realization of gender and ability disparities to a deep, physical understanding of systemic privilege. The final debate moved students from observing inequality to discussing personal, actionable steps for change. Besides, 3rd Form students improved their ICT literacy and leadership by designing a gamified assessment.
